Carnival days are serious business in Gran Canaria. For weeks leading up to it the carnival queen contests are held, along with the processions and performances by the "murgas" singers and street dances. Yes. Everywhere. And when there is neither one nor the other there are always the stalls and the mask dances, here at the authentic headquarters for endless fun.
In May, the tourist centre of Maspalomas is the epicentre of the Canary Islands' largest Gay Pride Party.Thousands of people will meet up in Gran Canaria to celebrate one of its most popular events of recent years. Gay Pride Day in Maspalomas adds larges doses of partying, entertainment and sun to the typical gay rights celebrations held by the LGBT collectives in other European cities.
Gran Canaria is a little great continent
A miniature world with a melting pot of diverse landscapes which seem to be taken from different countries.
An island of beaches. And mountains too. Plus great ravines where its strange natural surroundings are hidden away. A point in the ocean which has its own peculiar way of bringing together a sea of cultures. An amalgamation of sceneries, colours and flavours, ancestral traditions, bustling cities or out of the way hamlets.
All this and more awaits you if you just take to the roads that map out the 21 municipalities. Along winding roads where the climate can change as you go round each bend. We invite you to get to know our fair weather island, around any of the 4 routes we have put together for our visitors: from north to south, or from east to west.
